Andrew Williams

“My design philosophy is one of continual exploration. Everything I do is motivated by curiosity,” says Andrew Williams, Director of Industrial Design for Guidecraft, a company focusing on product design for early childhood education. His primary method is to “create with an approach based around materials and processes.”

Andrew was exposed to design and engineering at an early age. He can recall his first experience deconstructing a toaster in early grade school. “That really stuck with me,” Andrew explains. “We had this take apart station where I disassembled a toaster and used the parts to create a small sculpture. From that point on I was hooked and wanted to know how everything was made.” Born and raised in Lawrence, Kansas, Andrew earned his degree in industrial design from the University of Kansas. In 2014, he relocated to New York to join the design department at Guidecraft. When he is not focused on designing toys for kids, he spends time in his personal studio doing what he always has done, exploring, experimenting, and prototyping all of his own designs by hand. The aim of his personal work is a blend of craft and consumer product.
